How to Prevent Bed Bugs

Monday, 13 June 2011 03:32 PM EDT

Bed bugs are a troubling problem, and getting rid of them can be a difficult task. Various methods exist to prevent and eliminate the presence of these pests. Bed bugs tend to live in places within a structure that are warm and out of direct view. Mattresses, bed frames, carpets, sofa cushions, pillows, and spaces behind furniture should be inspected.

If bed bugs are found, one can treat infested areas with special bed bug spray available in stores alongside other pest controllers. Insecticide dust also works to quickly exterminate bed bugs. Furniture affected by bed bugs should be removed from the home to reduce the chance of another infestation.

Prevent bed bugs by covering mattresses in plastic which stops parasites from entering or exiting the furniture. Houses should be cleaned and vacuumed regularly, and any cracks in the walls, floors, or foundation should be sealed to lock out critters.
