What Is Pizza for Patriots?

Pizza 4 Patriots is a program that started in 2008, delivering pizzas to stationed American troops around the world.

The organization uses transport provided by DHL Express to deliver free pizzas to American soldiers on the Fourth of July and during the Super Bowl. Since its inception, Pizza 4 Patriots has served more than 130,000 pizzas overseas, according to its website. This non-profit is based in Illinois and operates out of Chicago.

Pizza 4 Patriots was founded by retired Master Sergeant Mark Evans, who wanted to make the men and women serving abroad feel close to home.

“Having served overseas, I personally know that having a taste of home on Super Bowl Sunday is a powerful experience for troops stationed abroad,” Evans said, according to Reuters. “I am grateful to DHL Express for donating its shipping services, and to Rich’s, for making this experience possible for our brave servicemen and women.”

The donors currently involved with funding the foundation include DHL, AT&T, UNO’s, Great Kitchens, New York Flying Pizza, Pappardelle’s, The Evans Family, America’s Dairy Farmers, Operation World Pizza, Fontanini, Rich’s, and Fox News, according to the organization’s website. Donations can be made on the website using PayPal or Bank of America.

The organization also set a world record in 2012, by delivering the largest logged pizza delivery ever.

The organization has since broadened its mission of Pizza delivery, and now brings pizza to Veteran’s Hospitals in the United States.

“We are honored to be a part of the team that helps our troops enjoy the Super Bowl the same way they would at home − with a slice of pizza,” said Mike Parra, CEO of DHL Express U.S., according to Reuters. “While our experienced staff regularly handles cross-border shipments and complex deliveries, we are working extra hard to ensure that the pizzas arrive fresh to say ‘thank you’ to our troops overseas.”
