Mark Lugo, a 30-year-old New Yorker, has been arrested for his theft of a $200,000 Pablo Picasso sketch, reports
Gawker.
Over the 4th of July weekend, Lugo walked into Union Square’s Weinstein Gallery in San Francisco and, very conspicuously, plucked the “Tete de Femme” Picasso sketch right off the wall. He sauntered out of the gallery, unnoticed, and painting in hand.
Lugo then took a cab to a local hotel, the cab driver called the police and led authorities to Lugo. The painting had been packaged as though ready for shipment, though authorities are not sure where Lugo intended to ship the artwork.
Police have booked Lugo on burglary, theft, possession of stolen property, and drug possession. He is being held on $5 million bail.
