Funny Cats Rule Internet, but Grumpy Cat Rules Them All

By    |   Monday, 05 January 2015 06:04 PM EST

The Internet remains a fertile ground for cat videos, many of which feature felines getting into all sorts of trouble. But aside from the funny, adorable and curious kitties, Grumpy Cat rules them all.

Dubbed "The World's Grumpiest Cat," the "miserable" cat was born April 4, 2012, in Morristown, Arizona. Her real name is Tardar Sauce, and owner Tabatha Bundsesen attributes her grumpy appearance to an overbite and feline dwarfism, according to the web site.

Other than that, "she is a perfect little kitty," Bundsesen wrote.

The 2-year-old feline has skyrocketed in popularity, spinning off books, stuffed toys, T-shirts, a meme-filled calendar, and even a coffee flavor, Grumppuccino. In late November, a live-action movie, "Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever," debuted on Lifetime, with Aubrey Plaza of "Parks and Recreation" voicing the cat's sarcastic tone.

Before the film, the chronically upset feline has only communicated through memes.

The original Grumpy Cat video appeared on Sept. 25, 2012, and has since been viewed by 17.4 million people.
