Cats and dogs have been known to squabble over turf and fight for the attention of their owners, and these battles have the potential to turn violent. But other times, the two different species form an inseparable bond of friendship and love.

1. One kitty learned the hard way that a dog's food isn't for him.
2. When in need, many kittens can find protection from a caring canine, as this litter can attest.
3. The fierce loyalty of a Doberman sometimes extends beyond humans. In "Pancake the kitten loves his Doberman," from Nov. 11, 2012, Pancake and his canine companion trade playful jabs as they chill out together. According to posters "camelsandfriends," the video won the grand prize at the 2013 Friskies Internet Cat Video awards.

4. Playing is always the name of the game.
5. "When Roxy (big black puppy) gets very curious about the kittens, Charlie, the Chihuahua, gets in between and makes sure Roxy stays away from them," writes YouTube poster Nancy J.
6. This video shows that dogs can be nurturing. On Oct. 21, 2009, "I found the kitten on the street; it was about to be killed by car traffic. I took the kitten home and the rest is on the footage," according to dog owner Victor Miguel Cordovez Aragones' YouTube description. What follows is more than five minutes of loving care by two Labradors.
7. The next day, Aragones brought the cat, Tobias, back from the vet. "The doc gave him less than 20 percent of survival chances but he made it," he wrote on Oct. 22, 2009. As expected, the dogs welcomed the cat with open paws.
