A peacock that escaped from its home in the Central Park Zoo on Tuesday exhibited that even birds can have expensive taste when it perched itself on a fifth-floor window ledge at 838 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. The peacock’s preferred spot is a swanky pre-war building that houses luxury condos, one of which reportedly sold for $22.5 million in 2009, reports

The runaway bird stayed atop its fancy new digs for hours as a curious crowd assembled to take photos. Zookeepers, meanwhile, assured the public that the bird could fly quite well and did not pose a danger to anyone. “I’ve never seen a peacock on Fifth Avenue before . . . I didn’t think peacocks were flying birds,” Bill Salvas, of Weehawken, NJ, told CBS News.
Two onlookers even tried to lure the bird down with hand signals and whistles, but to no avail. “Peafowl routinely roost high in trees at dusk and stay there until dawn,” said zoo director Jeff Sailer in a statement Tuesday evening.
“Home is a short flight across the avenue and we think our peacock will make his way across soon,” Sailer added.
