What Is P90X?

Monday, 13 June 2011 04:49 PM EDT

“From regular to ripped in 90 days” is the promise P90X developers Tm Horton and BeachBody have been selling since the workout was released in 2004.

Commonly known as “P90X,” the Power 90 Extreme workout system uses a rigorous muscle training program in conjunction with a strict dietary program to help users become lean and muscular. This program has trended well among users and as of November 2010, 3 million copies of P90X have been sold.

Users are expected to work out for one hour per day, six days each week for 13 weeks. This works out to a 90-day commitment — from where P90X gets part of its name.

The method to the P90X workout system is called “muscle confusion.” According to developers, this method prevents the body from becoming used to workouts over time. This prevents “plateaus” and enables consistent progress.

For about $140, the P90X systems includes workout DVDs, a nutrition plan, fitness guide, and online “peer support.” Critics of the P90X system claim that this is not an all-inclusive cost. P90X also requires users to purchase expensive equipment including resistance bands, dumbbells, a chin-up bar, and push-up stand.

Critics also caution that this system is not suitable for everyone. Those who are obese or have a pre-existing injury should not use the P90X system.
The P90X system is a strenuous workout program that requires significant lifestyle changes. But overall, reviewers claim that most users experience positive results and achieve the physique they desire.
