Brian Kelly, football coach for Notre Dame College, announced Tuesday that senior Dayne Crist will be the team’s starting quarterback, at least for the beginning of the season, beating out sophomore Tommy Rees, reports the
South Bend Tribune.
“I expect him to be the starter for 13 weeks,” coach Kelly said. “We’ve got great confidence in his ability to lead our team to a championship.”
After suffering a knee injury in a game with Tulsa last October, Christ’s season was ended early, with Rees taking over for the Irish.
During the season, Christ accomplished 174 of 294 passes for 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
“This is a very difficult decision but one I’m excited to make,” Kelly said. “Because I know I’ve got two very, very good quarterbacks.”
