- College rankings and status: It is usually believed that one should opt for a college based on its ranking and status. This is understandable considering the importance and coverage the media attach to college rankings. However, college rankings should not be the only factor when choosing a college.Rather, you should visit various college campuses, speak to the college mentors, and then decide whether a particular college is right for you.
- College students party all day and night: Movies such as “Animal House” have portrayed a stereotypical image about college life. Students in the U.S. do enjoy the freedom to get involved in numerous extracurricular activities, but are also expected to maintain a very high standard of academic excellence and social behavior. Therefore, “only fun and no study” is nothing but a myth about college life.
- College students are rich: One should not believe the myth that 95% of students in America come from rich families. In reality, most students come from moderate income families. They get financial help from the university and various other sources. Some even apply for loans, earn scholarships, or work part-time to finance their education.
- College mentors are disconnected: Most people think that college mentors tend to be almost disconnected from normal social life and focus exclusively on their studies, but this is not true.
