Former U.S. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann is probably most well known for her Tea Party views and her 2012 presidential candidacy, but she also soon may be recognized as a 2016 Republican hopeful.

The following eight personal facts about Bachmann create a fuller picture of the woman – wife, mother, foster mom, tax attorney, small-business owner – behind the potential 2016 GOP presidential hopeful.

1. Michele Marie Amble was born to David and Arlene Jean Amble on April 6, 1956, in Waterloo, Iowa.

2. Michele Bachmann’s father taught her to handle firearms and hunt, and she went through a hunter’s safety course when she was 12 years old. “My favorite gun is an AR-15, because you can be so accurate with it. And I scored the best in my class — of any of the men too — in that class.”

3. At Anoka Senior High School, Bachmann was a straight-A student. In the 1972 yearbook, the Mamapeke blog featured a picture of the potential 2016 candidate in a Student Congress photo, front and center with the headline "When I grow up I want to be President."

4. After graduating high school in 1974, Bachmann spent the summer working on a kibbutz in Israel, according to Jezebel. “We worked on the kibbutz from 4 A.M. to noon. We were always accompanied by soldiers with machine guns,” Jezebel quoted Bachmann from a speech about her time in Israel.

“While we were working, the soldiers were walking around looking for land mines. I really learned a lot in Israel. I am a Christian, but I consider my heritage Jewish, because it is the foundation, the roots of my faith as a Christian."

5. Bachmann attended Winona State University, earning a B.A. in political science in 1978. She also received a J.D. from Orin Wesley Coburn School of Law at Oral Roberts University in 1986, and in 1988, a LL.M. in Tax Law from the College of William and Mary.

6. In 1976, Bachmann worked on the presidential democratic campaign for Jimmy Carter. She has said she was influenced to change to the Republican Party after reading Gore Vidal’s book, “Burr,” CNN reported.

7. Bachmann married her husband, Marcus, in 1978, and the couple has five children: Lucas, Harrison, Elisa, Caroline, and Sophia. The Bachmanns reside in Stillwater, Minnesota.

8. Michele Bachmann served as state senator from 2000 to 2006, and in 2006 was the first Republican woman to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Minnesota.
