Menopause: The Latest Medical Breakthroughs

Wednesday, 09 February 2011 04:22 PM EST

After 12 months with no menstrual flow, a woman is considered to be entering menopause. A year after this day, the woman is considered to be entering a post menopausal stage.

The menopause transition year is marked by several symptoms. Some of the common symptoms of menopause include dropping levels of natural hormones, hot flashes, palpitations, depression, irritability, anxiety, and mood swings. In order to avoid these symptoms of menopause, experts have advised various therapies and treatments.

Medication and diet modifications should be used to avoid common symptoms of menopause. According to a recent medical breakthrough, menopausal women have a greater risk of suffering from bone fracture and osteoporosis. This is because menopausal women have low levels of estrogen which results in diminishing bone density.

Another breakthrough in this field is that the analysis of certain symptoms may help researchers predict menopause in women three to four years earlier. The concentration of Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) in serum from blood samples helps determine when menopause will take place. Such predictions will certainly help women plan accordingly.

According to a recent medical declaration, treatment for another postmenopausal stage called atrophic vaginitis, has been unrevealed. The treatment for this condition is a dose of Vagifem (Estradiol Vaginal Tablets).
