Lost Hitchcock Film Found

Wednesday, 03 August 2011 04:29 PM EDT

A lost film of iconic filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock was discovered by researches in a New Zealand film vault, reports CNN
The film, dubbed “The White Shadow,” was released in 1924, a year after it was produced. The National Film Preservation Foundation believes that it may be Hitchcock’s earliest known film. Only three reals of the film have survived, out of the total six-reels, according to the institute.

“This is one of the most significant developments in memory for scholars, critics, and admirers of Hitchcock’s extraordinary body of work . . . These first three reels of ‘The White Shadow’ — more than half the film — offer a priceless opportunity to study his visual and narrative ideas when they were first taking shape,” David Sterritt, author of “The Films of Alfred Hitchcock,” said in a statement.

Hitchcock was only 24 when the film was made.
