Los Angeles offers a wide variety of attractions for families that travel to the city on  a staycation. From the mild weather and beautiful beaches to major theme parks and potential sightings of Hollywood stars, entertainment abounds indoors and out.

Here are seven great places for a staycation to visit in Los Angeles:

1. Universal Studios: Located in Hollywood, this theme park is a huge draw for families on vacation. Millions visit the park every year to experience the "thrilling theme park rides and shows, a real working movie studio, and Los Angeles’ best shops, restaurants and cinemas at CityWalk."

2. Sunset Boulevard: This famous 22-mile roadway is a magnet for those who love the silver screen and the stars of Hollywood. It stretches all the way from downtown Los Angeles to the Pacific Ocean and features some very exclusive neighborhoods. In the past, the boulevard represented Hollywood glamor but has since become a mix of music venues, shopping opportunities and an active nightclub scene.

3. Griffith Park: With over 4,210 acres of natural and developed terrain, this park offers numerous recreational attractions to staycationing families. In addition to hiking, biking, horseback riding and picnicking opportunities, the park features a merry-go-round, a railroad museum, and a zoo. A major draw is a remarkable observatory where visitors can "can look through telescopes, explore exhibits, see live shows in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium, and enjoy spectacular views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Sign."

4. Venice Beach: The beach is a 3-mile long stretch of white sand, but the main reason people visit this attraction is to sightsee the creative culture that lines the street and ocean front walk. Los Angeles Parks writes, "Street performers include instrumental musicians, singers, jugglers, acrobats, mimes, comics, magicians, prophets, fortune tellers, and other assorted entertainers. You will see people with tricolor hairdos, painted faces, weird tattoos, and outlandish clothing — or lack of it." As the culture is uninhibited, parents should take into consideration the age of their children and the ultra-liberal culture before visiting.

5. Historic Grauman's Chinese Theater: This theater opened in 1927 and at the premiere, "Thousands of people lined Hollywood Boulevard and a riot broke out as fans tried to catch a glimpse of the movie stars and other celebrities as they arrived for the opening." The theater remains the number site for film premieres and a major tourist draw are the handprints, footprints and autographs of an elite group of actors that are placed in the concrete of the "Forecourt to the Stars."

6. The Getty Center: This museum campus holds some of the finest works of art in the world and the J. Paul Getty Trust is "dedicated to critical thinking in the presentation, conservation, and interpretation of the world's artistic legacy." The center itself is an architectural wonder and in addition to the museum collections and exhibits, the center offers public programs that include lectures, performances, and tours.
