The 1987 classic on any movie junkie’s shelf, “Dirty Dancing,” is coming back to the big screen, reports
Us Magazine.
Lionsgate announced plans to remake the film that starred Jennifer Grey and the late Patrick Swayze. Kenny Ortega who choreographed the film’s signature dance numbers, will direct the new film.
Variety reports the remake will feature the beloved original numbers “(I’ve Had) the Time of My Life,” “Hungry Eyes,” and “She’s Like the Wind”— along with more classic 1960s tunes and some newer tracks.
"The opportunity to direct Dirty Dancing is like returning home for me," Ortega told Us. "Growing up in the '60s on the dance floor helped define me as a person and as an artist."
Ortega admitted he faces a challenge in finding stars who can pull of the characters Swayze and Grey made iconic.
"Patrick Swayze set the bar for men dancing in the movies as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire did before him," Ortega told Us.
