Legalizing Weed: Tweets About Medical Marijuana Legalization in Parts of Maine

By    |   Saturday, 04 April 2015 05:55 PM EDT

Ballot Question 2 was passed in 1999, legalizing medical use of marijuana in Maine. The used of "weed," as it's called, does have its restrictions.

The use of this drug as a legitimate medical drug is not universally accepted, but several doctors have endorsed using marijuana for patients who suffer from specific conditions. Medical marijuana refers to the use of the substance (cannabis) as therapy to alleviate the symptoms of various diseases and condition, and Maine recognizes the following conditions as eligible for medical marijuana use: cancer, glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Crohn’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, nail-patella syndrome, cachexia, severe nausea, seizure disorders, severe and persistent muscle spasms, intractable pain, chronic pain (must have been non-responsive to traditional pain treatment for more than six months), and/or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

How do Maine residents feel about legalizing the use of marijuana for medical purposes? People have reacted to the legislation in tweets:

The use of marijuana for medicinal purposes is legal in 23 states and the District of Columbia; however the federal government has not approved its use.
