Kobe Bryant Heading to Turkey?

Thursday, 21 July 2011 12:50 PM EDT

Turkish basketball club Besiktas is in talks with representatives for infamous Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant. Bryant, who has been frequent headline fodder in recent years, is discussing the possibility of playing in Turkey during the NBA lockout, reports The Guardian.

“It is a fact that Kobe Bryant's managers have contacted us," coach Ergin Ataman said Thursday. The club, however, would require a sponsor to be able to afford the player’s contract. “Our board will evaluate that,” the coach added.

Bryant would not be the first to venture outside the States during this season’s lockout — Besiktas signed New Jersey Nets point guard Deron Williams last week, and Coach Ataman told reporters that other NBA players have contacted the club as well.

Bryant, a 13-time NBA All Star who has captured five NBA titles with The Lakers, said that he would consider taking his game overseas during the lockout.
