  1. Turkey - This is, perhaps, the more popular game to hunt during the spring season. As it turns out, turkey seasons exist for both youth and adult hunters. For youth, the season lasts for two days in early April (mid-April for the southeast region of the state). Meanwhile, the adult spring turkey season begins in early April (again, mid-April for the southeast region) and lasts through early May. The Oklahoma Hunting Guide outlines a few additional guidelines for avid turkey hunters: the shooting hours are a half-hour before official sunrise to official sunset. In addition, roost shooting is prohibited. The site also states, “Artificial decoys are permitted. Live decoys and recorded calls are prohibited. It is illegal to use a smartphone as an electronic call during turkey season.”

  3. Squirrel - The season for this type of game has the longest duration of any in the state (including the summer, fall, and winter months), beginning in early May and lasting until January of the following year. In a 2015 article for the All American Banner, squirrel hunting is regarded as “a popular part of Oklahoma’s hunting heritage and still is recognized by many today as a great recreational activity ... though fewer squirrel hunters may take to the woods now, the opportunities to harvest game and sharpen outdoor skills through squirrel hunting are still plentiful in Oklahoma.”
Though only two gaming options are available for hunters during the springtime, it’s still no wonder that hunters in Oklahoma and surrounding parts cast an eager eye towards that time of the year. The weather is warm, and “The Sooner State” is welcoming to all outdoor enthusiasts.
