The summer months in New Jersey are usually filled with plentiful sunshine and warm weather. With everyone flocking to the shore, outdoor activities become plentiful. Although most hunting seasons in New Jersey take place in the cooler months, there are still a few animals that are available to hunt. If you find yourself tired of the usual watersports or summer activities, here are three animals to hunt in New Jersey during the summer.

  1. Woodchuck - While the woodchuck has intermittent seasons throughout the year, there is a large season starting in the beginning of March and running until October. This summer season allows for the use of rifles, shotguns, and bows. Much like the rest of the year, there is no bag limit for these animals.
  2. Crows - While there are very few birds that are in season during the summer to hunt in New Jersey, the crow is fair game. While it is not always the most sought after bird, they are very abundant and there is no bag limit on these birds.

  4. Fishing - If you are lucky enough to find yourself at the Jersey shore during the summer, you will probably see plenty of fishermen. The beautiful weather mixed with the abundance of fish in the bays, streams, rivers, and the ocean, creates a perfect environment for casting out a line. If you are on the shore, one of the most popular fish to catch is the striped bass. They are highly sought-after and can reach up to 50 pounds. If you are around a bay, river, or even on the ocean, another popular target is the bluefish. They are very abundant in New Jersey and it’s not uncommon for someone to catch over 20 bluefish in one sitting.
