In addition to firearms and permits, technology is a terrific tool to aid hunting enthusiasts in the field. Providing mapping resources, boundary information, and season restrictions, these apps and online resources enhance the hunting experience.

Although there are no applications sponsored directly by the state of Rhode Island, there are many other online resources and mobile apps that can assist hunters hunting in Rhode Island.

1. Management / Hunting Area Atlas

Rhode Island's Department of Environmental Management provides a hunting atlas that marks important hunting regions. Clicking on the marked regions brings up more detailed regional maps that distinguish between state land, special hunting areas, and management areas.

The regional maps also provide topographical information. The state of Rhode Island maintains this resource in hopes of providing a general reference for hunter and sportsmen.

2. Hunting Regulations PDF

The state of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations Department of Environmental Management Division of Fish and Wildlife publishes a PDF of Rhode Island hunting regulations for each season.

The online booklet provides definitions, rules and regulations, and information about hunting seasons for various species. It sets bag limits and possession regulations, and seeks to regulate hunting in Rhode Island in an organized fashion.

3. Hunt Predictor

An app designed to optimize hunts, Hunt Predictor uses GPS and weather information to determine the best time to hunt deer, waterfowl, or turkeys. It also contains maps so hunters can keep track of their hunting companions. Simple to use and free of cost, this app is designed for the iPhone and iPad.

4. HUNT App: Public/Private Land Ownership GPS Map

The free hunting app uses GPS information to allow hunters to see their exact location in relation to public and private land boundaries. Basemaps provide topography, road, and water maps.

Hunters can mark specific places, such as camps and game sighting, with special icons. Later, they can download this information to view a comprehensive outlook on their hunts.
