Idaho also has varied hunting regions, providing enthusiasts with a varied landscape and depending on the season, different challenges.

For instance, when it comes to hunting mountain lion, you'll want to head to the Gem State's Idaho County, home to some of the state's most rugged terrain – from Hell's canyon in the west to the Salmon River Mountains and portions of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness to the south and the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness to the north and east, Game & Fish reports.

"This is huge country with plenty of true wilderness. Access is difficult even during the best of times. During winter months, when snow piles deep, it can be next to impossible. The most successful hunters use snowmobiles to traverse limited roads and open areas. Snowshoes and plenty of stamina are used in areas where machines cannot go," Game & Fish reports.

When hunting game in Idaho, it is imperative to have a valid state hunting license, along with the appropriate tag, and to make sure you are hunting during the right season.

In addition, know that how much you pay to bag an animal will depend on whether or not you live in Idaho or are visiting from another state. Anyone born after January 1, 1975, will also need to have successfully completed and obtained a hunter education class certificate unless he or she has a valid hunting license from another state.
