By    |   Wednesday, 20 May 2015 03:31 PM EDT

Arkansas has put in its time as the punchline in hillbilly jokes, but it is the headquarters of the world's largest corporation (Wal-Mart), and was the launching pad for popular two-term United States President Bill Clinton.

Another fact is that Arkansas is also known as the "Natural State," for its many state and national parks and wildlife reserves.

This fact, combined with its frontier heritage, means there's a lot of hunting in Arkansas, and a lot of beautiful places to do it in.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) divides the state into these regions, each of which has its own character: the Ozark Plateau, Arkansas River Valley, Ouachita Mountains, Coastal Plain, Mississippi Delta, and Crowley's Ridge.

Just don't forget your hunting license, and bear in mind that the state of Arkansas manages its wildlife pretty strictly to make sure there will be plenty left for future generations of hunters, so check the AGFC website to keep tabs on what's in season and what's not.

Don't forget your camera either: you might be so distracted by the scenery that you'd rather shoot pictures than critters on your trip to the Natural State.

Here is a look at some of the top spots for tracking down nearly every kind of wildlife you might have a taste for in the Arkansas backcountry.

Buck Island is an area encompasses 1,500 acres and features rabbit, deer, and quail.
Little River is a location where you will need a boat to get there, which makes it even more spectacular. Once you arrive, you'll find yourself amid a wealth of deer, quail, turkey, and rabbit. Due to its remoteness, you will have them nearly all to yourself.

Degray Lake is an area is ideal for those hunting deer, bear, and waterfowl while Bayou Meto offers hunting of deer, quail, rabbit, and waterfowl. Lake Winona features hunting for bear, deer, turkey, coyote, and more. Beaver Lake allows for hunting of deer, rabbit, and bear and Seven Devils is best for hunting ducks and other waterfowl.
