Reclusive Heiress Dies, Leaves Behind Fortune

Thursday, 26 May 2011 03:50 PM EDT

Copper heiress Hugette Clark died Tuesday in New York City, leaving behind among other less notables, a $500 million fortune.

The reclusive muli-millionaire heiress lived for 22 years in seclusion at Beth Israel Medical Center in the city after cutting herself off from all friends and family ties.

Among her fortune is a collection of high-end property including a $100 million estate in Santa Barbara, California, a $23 million house in Connecticut and a $100 million apartment in N.Y. on Fifth Avenue.

Clark was so secretive that she didn’t want her family to even know where she was staying. To that end, she registered at the hospital under a fake name, even making a lawyer speak to her through a door.

Married once, but with no children as heirs, the beneficiaries of Clark’s fortune have not been revealed.
