How to Treat Bronchitis

Friday, 03 June 2011 11:39 AM EDT

Before you can understand how to treat bronchitis, you have to know what bronchitis is. Bronchitis is the inflammation of the bronchi. Acute bronchitis may be caused by a bacterial or viral infection, while chronic bronchitis is caused by exposure to toxic chemicals and smoking.

Bronchitis symptoms include cold and influenza. Bronchitis treatment may need the following steps:

1. Gradual reduction of smoking. Avoiding pollution and staying indoors as much as possible is a good option. Wearing a face mask when going outside is a good protection tactic.
2. Using a vaporizer or a humidifier may help you breathe easier as it adds moisture to the air.
3. A good option to treat bronchitis is to place a hot water bottle wrapped in a moist cloth on the chest. This helps reduce the inflammation and is particularly useful during night.
4. Covering the nose and mouth during peak pollution times is a good way to treat acute bronchitis.
