Borderline Personality Disorder Research

Thursday, 24 February 2011 03:35 PM EST

Borderline personality disorder can be very difficult to treat. Researchers have strained to find better and faster treatment regimes that will ensure that patients can lead a life as close to normal as possible. Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is treated with medications and psychotherapy.  A few of the latest breakthroughs in the treatment of borderline personality disorder are:

1. Drugs like naltrexone, guanfacine, lamotrigine, ziprasidone, quetiapine, and olanzepine are different kinds of mood stabilizing medications that are being tried out on patients with borderline personality disorder.
2. High-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation and the efficacy of transference-focused psychotherapy are also being tried on borderline  personality disorder patients to evaluate their behavioral response to a 10-day treatment process.

Most of these treatment modules are still undergoing active research although a few clinical trials are complete. Take a look at the U.S. National Institute of Health and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration websites to find exact release dates and medication information of new and emerging borderline personality disorder medical breakthroughs and medications.
