Ruger Law Enforcement: Company's Non-Lethal Force Options

By    |   Wednesday, 29 April 2015 10:27 AM EDT

Gun manufacturers realize that, while law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day, not every situation they encounter requires the use of a lethal weapon. In light of that, some manufacturers, like Sturm, Ruger & Co., offer non-lethal alternatives that officers can use in less-threatening situations.

Following are some of the items offered by Ruger:

Ruger Lockdown Pistol Grip

This pepper spray device is designed for crowd control. After removing a metal safety pin, officers can spray and release the grip to release short, cone-shaped bursts of pepper spray.

Ruger Lockdown Firemaster
The Lockdown Firemaster is another pepper spray device offered by Ruger. It’s designed with a compact spray nozzle to make for easier storage. Like the Pistol Grip, it’s equipped with a safety pin that must be removed before use. When fired, the spray disperses in a cone-shaped fog pattern. http://www.gettornado.com/lawEnforcement.html

Ruger Lockdown
The Ruger Lockdown is a lower-cost alternative that fires in a stream pattern rather than a cone-shaped fog.

Ruger Restraint
The Ruger Restraint is a second low-cost alternative to the Pistol Grip and Firemaster versions. When fired, it disperses as a fog.

Ruger 800V Stun Gun
While not marketed specifically to law enforcement officers, the Ruger 800V Stun Gun is an additional non-lethal alternative to firearms. Delivering 800,000 volts of stun capacity, it comes with two batteries, a strap, and a carrying case.

Ruger 650V Stun Gun
Offered at a slightly lower price than the 800V, the Ruger 650V Stun Gun delivers 650,000 volts of stun power. In addition to a safety switch, it comes with batteries and a carrying case. http://www.lapolicegear.com/ruger-rsg650-stungun.html

Ruger IMV Stun Gun with Flashlight

This is the premium version of Ruger stun guns. It includes an LED flashlight with a wall charger and a rechargeable battery. When it comes to firepower, it delivers a whopping one million volts via six spike electrodes capable of penetrating clothing. http://www.gettornado.com/ruger1M-SG.html

These non-lethal alternatives give law enforcement officers a way of defusing situations in which using their weapons may not be necessary. They can also be excellent self-defense products for civilians. However, some state laws prohibit the possession of pepper spray and stun guns, so investigate the laws in your community before purchasing them.
