Companies like Browning that sell firearms often provide a discount to members of law enforcement.

According to TexVet.com, Cabela's Hometown Heroes celebration offers a special discount  to active military, veterans, law enforcement, firefighters and emergency medical services personnel. This opportunity is not available year-round, so customers need to see when they are offering the discounts.

Other companies may not advertise the discounts that they offer to members of law enforcement. In order to find out if a company offers a discount, LawEnforcement.com recommends that people ask the business up front.

They indicate that companies that do this "want to compensate public safety workers for their contributions to their communities" and that the savings usually fall within the 10 percent to 20 percent range. When you consider that the suggested retail price of a new Browning Hi Power is slightly less than $1,200, the savings can be significant.

One issue that arises with giving discounts to law enforcement is that it could open the door to potential conflicts of interest between a law enforcement officer's duty and a company looking for a quid pro quo transaction to get favors in the future.

For this reason, some people are against providing such discounts to members of law enforcement, politicians or anyone else that could cause such a conflict of interest.

However, many others consider it the least that they can do to show the people that protect our society how much they appreciate what they do for everyone.
