South Carolina ranks number 15 in a 2014 list of the best states for gun owners compiled by Guns and Ammo. The Palmetto State "does not require a permit to purchase a rifle, shotgun or handgun and residents can purchase long guns from non-contiguous states." Gun owners can find plenty of gun ranges throughout the state.

Here are six spots for firearms and pistol practice in the state of South Carolina:

1. Palmetto Indoor Range & Sporting Goods: Located in Hardeeville, this 10-station, 25-yard indoor range is available for handguns, rifles and fully automatic submachine guns. Master instructors are on hand to teach the basics of gun safety and marksmanship.

"We stopped off here on the way up to Washington DC. Really friendly staff," writes a reviewer on Google. "Went through everything with us. I had never shot a gun before. They were very patient with me. Great facilities with a great selection of guns. I was extremely impressed. We will definitely drop in again."

"Young man was very polite," writes a reviewer on Yellow Pages. "I think I just found my outlet ... twice a week."

3. Take Aim Training Range: Located in Pageland, the owners, who taught hunter education and concealed carry courses, wanted a range for families to practice gun safety. Take Aim has a rifle range and a handgun range with steel targets. The range includes skeet and trap shooting. An archery range has a 3D trail.

"I like Take Aim. It's affordable," writes a reviewer on Google Plus. "The facility is very functional. It has two pistol ranges, a 300-yard rifle range, trap & skeet shooting."

4. Trader World Guns & Range: Located in North Charleston, this range includes eight lanes for shooting with a large selection of ammo. Training classes, gun accessories and an on-site gunsmith are also offered.

"Quick easy tutorials if you have never fired before," writes a reviewer on Yelp. "I used a .45 Glock. It was in good condition for a rental. Overall, great friendly staff. I will definitely be visiting again."

5. 707 Indoor Shooting Range: Located in Myrtle Beach, the five lanes, 25 yards long, can be used by those who can confidently handle a firearm or for newcomers who would like instruction by on-site instructors. Climate-controlled ventilation provides a comfortable environment.

"Super nice and very helpful staff," writes a reviewer on Google Plus. "Small, but our group of six enjoyed our time there while down at the beach looking for a place to shoot. Highly recommend."

6. Quickshot: Located in Charleston, this fully-heated and air-conditioned ranges allow customers to feel comfortable all year long. You can use your own guns and gear or rent firearms from a selection of pistols and automatic weapons.

"I went there with a new gun to test, and they were helpful, courteous and professional," writes a reviewer on Google. "The place is clean and well run, and obviously safe. They have lots of guns for rent, which makes choosing a new gun much easier as you can actually shoot and compare many models. I thought the prices and rates were reasonable. You'll save money if you bring your own ammo and targets."
