Gun laws across the country vary greatly. What may be lawful in Mississippi may be unlawful in another state. Anytime a citizen goes outside his or her residential state, they would need to ensure they are familiar with that particular state's gun laws.
Some laws that may be different from state to state include, but are not limited to, the allowance of open versus concealed carry, the recognition of a concealed handgun license or permit, specific prohibited carry locations, how to carry in a vehicle, and definitions regarding the term "concealed" and "loaded" or "unloaded."

Due to the complex nature of the laws from state-to-state, when towns and cities make local rulings in regards to gun laws, it can get even more confusing to have separate laws within one state.
In Mississippi, the state preempts all firearm laws in the state. Towns and cities can't have local laws and/or ordinances against open carry. Although open carry without a permit is legal, interpretations and reactions from others may vary.
Towns and cities, however, cannot enact any ordinance that restricts the possession, transportation, sale, transfer, or ownership of firearms, ammunition, or components.

A local authority may enact and enforce a rule that prohibits a person from carrying or possessing a firearm in city parks and municipal buildings.
This includes a public park or a public meeting of a government body; a political rally, parade or official meeting; or a non-firearm related school, college, or professional athletic event.
It is also important to note that if a person who enters any property is asked to leave by the owner, or person in legal control of the premises or property, you must leave.
