President Barack Obama’s announcement on Nov. 15 that the United States would contribute $3 billion to the United Nation Green Climate Fund caused an online flood of opinions from global warming deniers and believers.

Speaking in Brisbane, Australia, Obama offered the contribution to “help developing nations deal with climate change.”

“Given the urgency and seriousness of climate change, the purpose of the Fund is to make a significant and ambitious contribution to the global efforts towards attaining the goals set by the international community to combat climate change,” the United Nation Green Climate Fund’s website said.

Sen. Jim Inhofe, on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, said in a statement quoted by CNS News, “President Obama’s pledge to give unelected bureaucrats at the U.N. $3 billion for climate change initiatives is an unfortunate decision to not listen to voters in this most recent election cycle. His climate change spending priorities, estimated to be $120 billion since the beginning of his administration, were on the ballot, and Americans spoke.”

Others have said that Obama did not have the authority to pledge the dollars, and it has been unclear from where he plans to get the money.

On Twitter, opinions about the decision came fast and furious:
