Many girls with guns agree: Shooting is just plain fun. But it's important to stay safe, too.

Here are a few accessories to ensure that women can still have fun on the range, while making sure safety and comfort remain priorities:

1. Eye protection is imperative. You can choose to go very basic with a pair costing approximately $15, or you can invest in a pair tailored to your needs and prescription. Older shooters might be tempted to invest in bifocal shooting glasses. Some people do well with these, but others prefer single vision eye protection for distance only, just for shooting purposes.

2. You should not shoot without ear protection. A reasonable pair of good earmuffs can be found for around $20. If you want to be able to hear ordinary conversation while the sound of gunfire is blocked, an electronic pair is the way to go. You can get these starting around $50 and up.

3. A speed loader can save you time and speed up the magazine loading process. A favorite among girls with guns is the UpLULA.

4. If a smoother texture on your firearm’s backstraps isn’t as comfortable as you’d like, you can add more texture to your backstraps and grip that will give you a more comfortable hold and more confidence while shooting. A good one to try is Talon Gun Grips.

5. Don’t forget to clean the heavy metal residue from your hands after shooting and reloading. D-Lead wipes come in a pop-up dispenser and allow you to wipe off any lead residue when soap and water aren’t immediately available.
