Gavin DeGraw Moving On After Assault

Tuesday, 23 August 2011 11:22 AM EDT

Gavin DeGraw says that he is looking forward to August 23 when he rejoins Maroon 5 and Train on tour following being severely beaten a few week ago, reports People
“It’s definitely a combination of excitement and nerves, because my breathing isn’t exactly the same,” the singer told People. “I’m feeling out my breathing through my nose trying to see if the swelling’s going down. The sensation is mildly different, so that makes me fearful about singing.”

DeGraw was attacked on August 9 by assailants who left his face unrecognizable to the 34-year-old.

“When I first saw my face, it looked like evil me. I had some fractures in my cheekbone and eye and nose. Everything was completely swollen” he said.

He says now, two weeks later, that he only has a small mark on his nose from stiches. “If you saw me right now, you’d think I’d cut myself shaving on my nose. It literally looks like there’s almost nothing visibly wrong anymore,” he said.

DeGraw suffered a concussion from the attack, which he says affected his memory and left him disoriented.

“My brain definitely got sloshed around in my skull during that walk home [afterwards],” he says. “I still get dizzy — particularly if I stand up from sitting down.”

DeGraw is set to release his fourth album ‘Sweeter’ on September 20 as he continues to heal and move on from the incident.
“I’m not living in fear,” he said. “It was a terrible night for me, but fortunately I got through it. I still look like my mother, and onward and upward.”
