Francis Chan Quotes on Heaven: 10 Memorable Statements From the Evangelical Leader

By    |   Friday, 15 May 2015 11:30 PM EDT

Christian Evangelical preacher, Francis Chan, knows a lot about Heaven – at least, he knows enough about it to give sermon after sermon and write best-selling books on the subject.
The 47-year old pastor constantly challenges Christians everywhere to give themselves completely to God, not just do enough what is convenient. Speaking on the issue of self-righteous people who believe they are above punishment from God, the Christian Post quoted Chan as saying, "I'm sure there were people back then who said they were good people but God looked down and said, 'there is no one righteous, except for Noah.' That goes with the second lie that is so destructive because people say God can't punish and there's no such thing as hell."

So, what are some other words of wisdom about Heaven from Chan? He writes a lot on the subject in his best-selling books, “Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God” and “Erasing Hell: What God Said About Eternity and the Things We’ve Made Up.”

1. “...our concern is more about going to heaven than loving the King.”

2. “I wonder, then, why the last thing Jesus told us was to go into the world, making disciples of all nations, teaching them to obey all that He commanded? You'll notice that he didn't add, 'But, hey, if that's too much to ask, tell them to just become Christians – you know, the people who get to go to heaven without having to commit to anything'.”

3. “[We seem to ask] 'Can I go to heaven without truly and faithfully loving Jesus?’”

4. “As much as we want God to explain Himself to us, His creation, we are in no place to demand that He give an account to us.”

5. “God exists outside of time, and since we are within time, there is no way we will ever totally grasp that concept.”

6. “Lukewarm people think about life on earth much more often than eternity in heaven.”

7. “The message of the Bible is not about God in Heaven who wants to take from you. It's about God who wants to give to you.”

8. “A person who is obsessed thinks about heaven frequently. Obsessed people orient their lives around eternity; they are not fixed only on what is here in front of them.”

9. “We are not alone.  Even now there are thousands of beings in heaven watching what is going on down here—a ‘great cloud of witnesses,’ the Scripture says. It reminds me that there is so much more to our existence than what we can see. What we do reverberates through the heavens and into eternity.”

10. “As I see it, a lukewarm Christian is an oxymoron; there is no such thing. To put it plainly, churchgoers who are 'lukewarm' are not Christians. We will not see them in heaven.”
