Francis Chan Quotes on Life: 10 Memorable Statements From the Evangelical Christian

By    |   Friday, 15 May 2015 11:16 PM EDT

Evangelical preacher, Francis Chan, started the Cornerstone ministry with his wife in 1994. By the mid-2000s his popularity was soaring and Chan was reaching millions of Christians around the globe with his messages about Christianity and what it means to have an active spiritual faith.

Chan is a husband, father, and a best-selling author. His books “Crazy Love: Forgotten God” and “Erasing Hell: What God Said about Eternity and the Things We’ve Made Up” have both ranked in the top five on the New York Times bestseller list. His sermons are easily accessible on YouTube.com.

Chan is a firm believer in taking action in faith, being a full participant in all things spiritual, yet living out life entirely for God. This message permeates much of his work. Chan maintains that “the sign of a spirit-filled person is that they understand submission…out of a reverence for Christ.”

However, not only does Chan speak about reverence to God in his works, he also gives lessons on living our human lives here on earth.

The following are 10 of Chan’s remarks, according to Goodreads, about life excerpted from his best-selling books, “Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God” and “Erasing Hell: What God Said About Eternity and the Things We’ve Made Up”:

1. “Our greatest fear should not be of failure but of succeeding at things in life that don't really matter.”

2. “Do you know that nothing you do in this life will ever matter, unless it is about loving God and loving the people he has made?”

3. “Has your relationship with God changed the way you live your life?”

4. “True faith manifests itself through our actions.”

5. “The point of your life is to point to Him. Whatever you are doing, God wants to be glorified, because this whole thing is His.”

6. “Why would we need to experience the Comforter if our lives are already comfortable?”

7. “I want to live so that I am truly submitted to the Spirit's leading on a daily basis. Christ said its better for us that the Spirit came and I want to live like that is true. I don't want to keep crawling when I have the ability to fly.”

8. “We are consumed by safety. Obsessed with it, actually. Now, I'm not saying it is wrong to pray for God's protection, but I am questioning how we've made safety our highest priority. We've elevated safety to the neglect of whatever God's best is.”

9. “If life is a river, then pursuing Christ requires swimming upstream. When we stop swimming, or actively following Him, we automatically begin to be swept downstream.”

10. “Life is comfortable when you separate yourself from people who are different from you. That epitomizes what my life was like: characterized by comfort. But God doesn't call us to be comfortable. He calls us to trust Him so completely that we are unafraid to put ourselves in situations where we will be in trouble if He doesn't come through.”
