Fishing in New Hampshire: Online Resources and Mobile Apps to Enhance the Experience

By    |   Friday, 12 February 2016 02:34 PM EST

Despite the state’s small size, anglers can enjoy their fair share of fishing opportunities when they go fishing in New Hampshire.

Fishers can enjoy both coastal fishing along its 18-mile coast, or hit up lakes like the state’s largest, Lake Winnipesaukee, as well as several major rivers, including Connecticut River, which is 410 miles long.

Before grabbing your fishing pole, here are some online resources for fishing in New Hampshire that will help you plan your trip and some mobile apps when you bag some fish.

1. New Hampshire Fish and Game Website

Anglers should always start their fishing trip at the state’s official wildlife online resource. Here, anglers can purchase their license, make non-game donations, and find the latest information regarding regulations, bag limits, and other news that could impact their fishing plans.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department also provides a free mobile app for download to either Android or iOS devices.

2. NHOutdoors.com

If you’re looking for news about where to go fishing in New Hampshire, check out NHOutdoors.com. The site is broken up into several categories, including lodging, golfing, farms and orchards, campgrounds, horseback riding, summer camps, and ski information, as well as a section called “Guides.” Here, anglers can find information about guided fishing expeditions. Many of these outfitters specialize in fishing excursions, such as Fish NH Guide Service, Lake Winni Fishing Charters, and New Hampshire Fishing Guide.

3. NHFishFinder.com

This site provides a forum for anglers to talk about all things fishing in New Hampshire. The online forum has nearly a 1,000 registered users for its New Hampshire subgroup, and people share photos and stories and ask questions about where the fish are biting. Equipment reviews and water heights exist on the site, too.

4. Aqua Map New Hamphire Lakes

In addition to downloadable offline nautical charts, this app also utilizes GPS functions to aid navigation, like drawing up a route and placing storeable markers and tracks. Aqua Map also includes a social media platform, ActiveCaptain, which allows users to tap into locals' knowledge and points of interest.

The app has information on 300 lakes in New Hampshire including topographical maps and access points for getting into the water. The app can be purchased in Google Play for $2.90 and in the App Store for $3.99 and $6.99 for the HD version. If you like this app and want something for fishing along New Hampshire's Atlantic Coast, there is also a marine version of Aqua Map that covers the entire USA.
