There are apps for everything these days, and fishing in no exception. If you're planning to head out Iowa's lakes, rivers and streams to cast for trout or bass, catfish or perch, there are a number of online resources to help enhance your fishing experience in the Hawkeye State.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources website is a good place to begin plotting your next fishing trip. It offers lots of useful information about species of fish found in Iowa, tips and fishing how-to's, and specifics on where to purchase a fishing license in the state.
The website also has
Fishing Atlas feature. After clicking on the link, users are taken to an interactive map showing the contours for 150 lakes across the state. Use the search function to zoom in on the one you want to fish. You'll also be able to see nearby roads, amenities and the topography.
The angling experience can also be enhanced by a good fishing application, which can be downloaded to an iPhone or Android device, and used in the field. Here are three to look up.
