Federer Beats Djokovic, Will Meet Nadal in French Open Final

June 3 (Bloomberg) -- Roger Federer beat No. 2 Novak Djokovic in four sets to advance to the French Open tennis final against top-ranked Rafael Nadal.

The third-seed won 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) in Paris. The Swiss has won a record 16 men’s Grand Slam titles, with his only championship at Roland Garros coming in 2009.

The loss ended Djokovic’s winning streak to start the season at 41 matches, one off John McEnroe’s record set in 1984. It also prevents the Serb from replacing Nadal as the No. 1 player in the ATP World Tour rankings.

Five-time champion Nadal of Spain beat No. 4 Andy Murray of Britain 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 in today’s first semifinal. He’ll tie Bjorn Borg’s record of six French Open titles with a win in the final.

This was the first time since the 2006 French Open, and the 12th time since tennis turned professional in 1968, that the top four seeds reached the semifinals at a Grand Slam.
