New Hampshire employers are a diverse bunch, encompassing the state’s maritime past and including current dominant industries in healthcare and education.

5. UA Local 788 Marine Pipefitter
Located in Portsmouth, the
UA Local 788 Marine Pipefitter employs approximately 3,000 people. New Hampshire’s naval shipyards make the dominance of this trade unsurprising. 4. Dartmouth College
This New Hampshire Ivy League college was founded in 1769 and features 40 undergraduate departments and graduate programs in medicine, engineering, business, and arts and sciences. Enrollment in 2013 was 6,342, the school’s website said, and faculty consists of 1,045 adjunct and tenured professors with the total employment count at the college estimated at 3,500.
3. Elliot Hospital

The Manchester hospital is part of a non-profit health system with deep community roots. It is currently the
largest healthcare provider in southern New Hampshire with its 296-bed acute care facility.
With healthcare part of the growing economic landscape of New Hampshire, Elliot Hospital employs 3,500. In addition to the hospital, the health system offers a cancer center, a specialty clinic in senior health, and a children's hospital.
2. University System of New Hampshire
The state university system includes University of New Hampshire, Plymouth State University, Keene State College, and Granite State College. Offering traditional and online learning opportunities, this makes the system an accessible source of education as well as
one of the largest employers in New Hampshire. It currently employs 4,743 faculty and staff.
1. Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center
Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center is the largest employer in New Hampshire with an estimated 8,000 employees. With extensive medical treatment and research facilities, it is considered a strong force in the healthcare field.
The health system includes the general clinic, children's hospital, and the Norris Cotton Cancer Center. Also associated with the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, it is easy to see why this nationally known institution would also become a primary job provider for health care workers.
