How to Save Money on DVD Players

Thursday, 07 October 2010 03:16 PM EDT

Everyone wants the ease of watching movies in the comfort of their own home. If you are looking to buy a DVD player, the choices are endless. With various available options, splurging may not be in your best interest when choosing what to buy. Focus on saving money as well as on purchasing a reasonably good-quality DVD player. Keep the following factors in mind when buying a DVD player:

1. Type: DVD players offer five types of features: standard, multiple, combo, portable, and recorder. The standard player can hold only one DVD at a time. With multiple players, you can store more than one disc, but can play just one at a time. A combo DVD player can be teamed up with a VCR or a TV set. The portable DVD player is compact and moderately priced. You have a monitor connected to the player, which is great for travelers. You can also opt for the headphone option offered by some portable DVD players or car DVD players. On the other hand, a DVD recorder offers superior video quality. Some multidrive DVD recorders can read and record multiple disc formats, while some can burn CDs as well.

2. Price: You can get a portable DVD player for as low as $20 or as high as $200 and above. Concentrate on trying to save money when purchasing a good DVD player. Examine only the variety of DVD players available within your decided budget. Do your homework if you want to save money.

3. Supported file formats: Save money, but don’t compromise. There is no point in buying a DVD player that cannot support the format you want to watch. As long as the DVD player can play regular DVDs, if not high-definition ones, you should be ok. Stretch your budget a bit if you wish to play high-definition DVDs.

4. Screen size: A portable DVD player is available with a built-in 7” to 8” as well as 5” to 6 ½” LCD screen, which are available at low prices. You want picture clarity for viewing, right? So, if you are going to have someone else using the DVD player along with you, the 5” screen may be too small.

5. Audio quality: Test the DVD player before making the purchase. In your endeavor to save money, do not compromise on the guarantee or warranty. Ask the sales staff to operate the DVD player for you. Purchase something that offers clear sound. Some portable DVD players and car DVD players offer good sound quality and are a good option. You can also buy a reduced-price DVD player from a dealer or third party.

Whether it is a DVD recorder, a car DVD player, or a portable DVD player, you need to be particular about the features you need. Focus only on the essentials so that you will save money while enjoying your new DVD player.
