By    |   Monday, 12 January 2015 12:51 PM EST

It's OK for owners to pamper their pooches a little, including providing a comfy dog bed, as your pet ages, according to happytailsspa.com.

Like humans, as dogs get older they can develop joint and hip problems. Good pet beds can provide relief from the pain these medical problems bring, and make sleeping that much easier for your canine pal.

Here are five good beds for an aging dog:

Latest: Tell Us About Your Pets! Which Do You Have?

1. The Snoozer Memory Foam Luxury Pet Sofa is shaped like a small sofa and stuffed with memory foam, which makes it cozy for all pets while also relieving stress and pain in older pets, according to 1800petmeds.com. The site said the bed offers bolster armrests, which enable the dog to nestle between the sofa and its sides.

2. The Snoozer Orthopedic Cozy Cave Pet Bed features a thick fabric hood that creates a cave-like environment, according to 1800petmeds.com. It said the bed includes a three-inch orthopedic foam, which is great for sore joints, and a warm and cozy Sherpa lining.

3. The K&H Lectro-Soft Igloo-Style Heated Dog Bed is the first soft Igloo-style heated bed for outdoor dogs on the market, according to Petco.com. It said the orthopedic dog bed is unique in that it will still provide soft, comfortable warmth even in sub-zero weather.

4. Old-dog-treats-and-rawhide.com says it loves the four-sided orthopedic beds available through Serenity Health. The Serenity Health website indicated that when weight is applied to the memory foam, the pressure is spread out and the foam conforms to the pet’s body.

5. In its list of the 15 best-rated beds for dogs and cats, petswelcome.com included the Large Orthopedic Memory Foam Joint Relief Bolster Bed available at Amazon.com. The three-layer, five-inch thick polyurethane bed has a built-in, wrap-around bolster that cradles the head and gives comfort to the pet, according to its ad on Amazon.com.
