By    |   Tuesday, 10 February 2015 09:51 PM EST

Dennis Michael Lynch, a dark horse contender for the nod to be a GOP presidential candidate in 2016, has an atypical background for a promising politician. From tech businesses to filmmaking, his pre-political career covers a good deal of ground.

1. Dennis Michael Lynch is the founder of TechSmart.com, a computer and business technology enterprise, which in 2000 had a $10 million inventory and led to business honors for Lynch. As the young business giant told The New York Times in March 26, 2000: "There was something about buying and selling computers that I liked."

2. Lynch is the founder and CEO of TV360Media which specializes in the production and distribution of digital films. The presumed candidate began his business empire when at the age of 22 he started Lynch Technologies, a computer recycling company that grew to become one of the larger computer hardware companies on Long Island, New York, according to Communities Digital News.

3. Lynch personally witnessed the September 2001 terrorist attacks in New York. After that, he enrolled in the New York Film Academy, another field he would throw 100 percent of his energies. He was the oldest student in the class. Over the next decade, Lynch would produce films that drew widespread discussion.

4.
A few years after his academy studies, he decided to pursue his dream of making films and launched his digital video production company, TV360Media. He'd already completed one full-length film before starting "King of the Hamptons," which got off to a promising start at the Hamptons and Long Island international film festivals in 2010 and 2011.

"King of the Hamptons" deals with the consequences and mental impact of midlife crisis. The film has celebrity appearances from Billy Joel, Christie Brinkley, Alec Baldwin, and Ed Burns. As Hamptons.com describes it, "Lynch and Hamptonite Dan Rattiner go on a quest to find happiness and face the past while taking on new opportunities."

It was followed by "They Come to America II: The Cost of Amnesty" in 2013. Both films explore the human and financial costs of illegal immigration.

7. Lynch's comfort in front of and behind the camera has made him a natural to comment on the issues of the day. He has hundreds of appearances on television and talk radio.
