Packing for any vacation can be difficult, but cruises present some unique challenges. If you’re looking forward to a cruise, make sure to bring along these seven items.

1. Motion sickness pills — Nothing can hamper a good time quite like feeling nauseated. If you are a first-time cruiser and do not know how being at sea will affect you, bring either Dramamine or homeopathic ginger pills, recommends the Cruise Blog by Ship Mate.

2. Earplugs — The Cruise Blog explains that because cruise ships have to maximize space, it is likely you will hear passengers in the cabins next to yours. You may also have to deal with noise if your cabin is located near a nightclub or engine room. Bring along earplugs to ensure a good night’s sleep.

3. Passport and birth certificateRoyal Caribbean says you’ll need these documents if you are cruising internationally. They suggest making copies of each important document and keeping them with trusted family members back home.

4. Appropriate attireCruise Critic recommends learning the dress code for your particular cruise and packing accordingly. Most cruise lines have become much more casual, allowing informal dress or “resort casual” clothing for most events. However, there may be some events for which a suit or cocktail dress may be required.

5. Portable charger — Outlets in cabins can be limited and you may be on the go often during your cruise. Royal Caribbean suggests bringing a portable charger for smartphones, tablets, and cameras so you never lose power.

6. Wrinkle-release spray — Most cabins do not have an iron because it presents a fire safety hazard, explains Royal Caribbean. If your clothes have been packed tightly in your luggage and you don’t want to look like you’ve slept in them, this spray is invaluable.

7. Binoculars — With the open sea all around you, your bound to have some amazing views. Royal Caribbean says being able to get a closer look at wildlife and distant shores is a real treat.
