In the midst of criticism over the Confederate flag, the iconic General Lee car from the television show “The Dukes of Hazzard” has come under fire.

The orange 1969 Dodge Charger famously depicts the Civil War battle flag on its roof, another use of the “Stars and Bars” in popular culture.

With controversy brewing, however, some are removing the vehicle from public view, including the following:

Vote Now: Should the Confederate Flag Be Removed From All Government Buildings?

1. Warner Bros. announced it would no longer produce toy replicas and merchandise of the car after retailers such as Wal-Mart, Sears, eBay, and Amazon pulled their Confederate flag stock, The Verge reported.

In 2012, the company announced it would not alter the design of the original General Lee by removing the flag from its print.

2. TV Land pulled the show from its schedule, a spokeswoman from the channel confirmed to The Huffington Post.

John Schneider, the actor who played Bo Duke on the television show, was not happy about the announcement, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “‘The Dukes of Hazzard’ was and is no more a show seated in racism than ‘Breaking Bad’ was a show seated in reality.”

3. Bubba Watson, owner of the original car, posted on Twitter that he has plans to paint over the Confederate flag on the General Lee, according to Vulture.

Watson, a Masters-winning golfer, purchased the car for $110,000 in 2012, but it was in bad shape having been salvaged from a scrap yard, according to Vulture.

Urgent: Should Government Buildings Be Forced to Remove the Confederate Flag?

4. A replica is placed up for auction.

The replica was built by Schneider, FOX News reported. Former NBA star Jalen Rose later purchased the vehicle and covered the Confederate flag. The original paint job was later returned, and the car was up for grabs at Julien’s Auctions Hollywood Legends. No one purchased the vehicle.
