Known as one of the top actresses of her day, it’s surprising that Claudette Colbert’s list of awards only amount to five wins and eight total nominations. But, this was a woman who got her start on Broadway before moving pictures were invented and is heralded as one of the leading actresses of all time by the American Film Institute.
Here are Claudette Colbert’s awards spanning between 1935 and 1990:

Academy Awards
Colbert was first nominated for an Oscar in 1935 for her role in “It Happened One Night.” This nomination resulted in a win that she was sure wouldn’t happen – so sure, in fact, that she was awaiting a train to take her on holiday before being stopped to attend the ceremony.
She was nominated again in 1936 for “Private Worlds” and in 1945 for “Since You Went Away,” but neither nominated resulted in a win.
It’s also worth noting that Colbert was in two other huge movies during her Oscar-winning year – “Cleopatra” and “Imitation of Life” – but the escapist nature of “It Happened One Night” resonated with the Depression-era audience more than the other two films, yet still displayed her acting range far beyond just comedy performances.

Golden Globes
Colbert’s astonishing career spanned nearly 70 years, and her role in 1988’s “The Two Mrs. Grenvilles” proved that the screen siren still had it with this Golden Globe win at the age of 84 in her last on-screen role.
Primetime Emmy Awards
Colbert was also nominated for “The Two Mrs. Grenvilles” at the 1987 Primetime Emmys, but did not take home the award in this case.
Lifetime Achievements
With over 60 acting credits to her name, it’s no surprise that Colbert was honored several times for her contributions to entertainment industry. Colbert won the Gala Tribute in 1984, the San Sebastian International Film Festival Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990, and her start on the Walk of Fame in 1960, located at 6812 Hollywood Blvd.
