5 Celebrities Who Derided Dolce & Gabbana Remarks Endorsing Traditional Families

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, Italian designers, expressed support of traditional marriage in a March 2015 interview with Panorama magazine, causing an uproar on social media.

While Dolce and Gabbana are gay and had previously been a couple, they said on the topic of in vitro fertilization, surrogate mothers, and gay adoptions that "there are things that should not be changed."

“I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented wombs,” Dolce said.

Here are some comments made in disagreement and calling for a boycott of the brand:

1. Singer Elton John, who has two children born with surrogate mothers with his husband David Furnish, started the charge.



2. Singer Ricky Martin has twins born with a surrogate mother, and advised the designers to “wake up.”



3. NBC News co-anchor Al Roker and his wife used IVF treatment to start a family in 1998 and he called out the designers as well.



4. Victoria Beckham showed her support for children born with the help of IVF.

Chef Art Smith has adopted four children with his husband Jesus Salgueiro, and he tweeted a picture of his family.



Following the uproar, a statement was released in which the pair stated, “It was never our intention to judge other people’s choices. We do believe in freedom and love.”
