Church Gets Tech Saavy

Wednesday, 29 June 2011 12:07 PM EDT

Pope Benedict XVI has officially jumped on the technology bandwagon with his purchase of an iPad. Going one step further, the 84-year-old also launched the Vatican’s new website and created a Twitter.

His first tweet read, "Dear Friends, I just launched News.va Praised be our Lord Jesus Christ! With my prayers and blessings, Benedictus XVI."

According to CNN, the pope didn’t write the tweet himself, rather it was prepared for him by an advisor. His spokesman stated, “The tablet was presented to him. He did the click and sent the tweet.”
