5 Facts About Caitlyn Jenner

By    |   Wednesday, 21 October 2015 07:11 PM EDT

Caitlyn Jenner, a transgender individual and Olympian formerly known as Bruce Jenner, unveiled her new look and gender on the cover of Vanity Fair in May 2015, just weeks after Bruce had announced in an April interview that he would be becoming a she.

Since then, Jenner garnered the most followers on Twitter in the shortest amount of time and was honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPY Awards.

Here are some facts you might not know about Caitlyn Jenner:

1. Jenner experienced a panic attack after surgery.
In March, Jenner underwent 10-hour feminization facial surgery that was expected to be only five hours. The day after, the reality television star questioned the actions that had been taken, but a counselor ensured that thoughts like that were normal, Vanity Fair reported.

2. Jenner herself accidentally used the name "Bruce" after announcing Caitlyn.
While Vanity Fair interviewer Buzz Bissinger apologized for using the male pronoun instead of the female pronoun for Jenner, the Olympic medalist revealed when introducing herself at one point she accidentally used her former name. In the Vanity Fair article, she expressed preference of the feminine pronoun.

3. Caitlyn was not Jenner's original idea for female name.
"Jenner had once talked in jest about going to Denmark and coming back to his four young children as Aunt Heather," Bissinger wrote for Vanity Fair.

4. Caitlyn is spelled with a "C" instead of a "K" to break away from the Kardashian "K" theme.
“It’s one of the hardest things in life — choosing your own name,” Jenner told Vanity Fair in a followup article. When she finally settled on the name, she debated which way to spell it, but ultimately settled on Caitlyn with a "C," deciding it was "best to break tradition," VF said.

5. Jenner does not have a sexual preference.
While Bruce had relationships only with women, Jenner said she is not looking for a partner currently and does not know what the future will hold for her in that area of life. Jenner has not had genital surgery.
