Breast Cancer: Warning Signs

Breast cancer facts:
In the early stages, breast cancer does not usually cause noticeable symptoms. The cancer may be revealed by a mammogram. Noticeable symptoms develop as the cancer progresses through stages.

Breast cancer symptoms:
1. Lump in the breast/armpit: It’s the classic symptom of breast cancer and is often the first symptom. Lumps mostly develop in the breast’s upper outer quarter, making the breast look asymmetric.
2. Swelling of part or the entire breast: Sometimes, the arm next to the breast swells.
3. Pain in the breast or nipple: Note, however, that in early stages, breast cancers are usually painless. Pain in the breast may signify inflammatory breast cancer. Other signs of inflammatory breast cancer include sudden swelling and itching of the breast.
4. Nipple discharge: Fluid, other than milk, coming from the nipple. The fluid may be clear, bloody, or pus-like (yellow or green).
5. Retracted nipple (nipple turning inward) or scaly nipple
6. Skin change: The nipple/breast skin becomes reddish, scaly, or thick.
7. Weight loss
8. Pegat's disease of the breast: Marked by excessive itching, tingling, burning, and pain near the lump.

For correct diagnosis, any breast changes must be promptly checked out by a doctor.
