Borders Group Inc., the nation’s second largest book chain, inched closer to its end on Sunday after receiving no offers to purchase the company, the
Wall Street Journal reports.
The only reported negotiations taking place are with Books-A-Million Inc., a bookstore chain based in Birmingham, Alabama, but it is unlikely that the bid, even if it goes through, would save all of the currently owned Borders’ stores.
Borders employs more than 11,000 people and the company’s closure would leave Barnes & Noble Inc. as the sole remaining national book chain.
