Billy Graham Library: Facts and Information Before Visiting Charlotte Museum

By    |   Friday, 26 December 2014 07:37 PM EST

Each year, visitors from all across the globe flock to Charlotte, North Carolina, to take in the Billy Graham Library. The 40,000-square-foot museum, which opened to the public in 2006, is designed to reflect Graham’s life — and, more importantly, put the spotlight on the God he served for more than a half-century.

The Billy Graham Library’s official website sums up the intent behind the museum: “Designed to reflect Billy Graham’s journey from a humble farm boy to an international ambassador of God’s love, the barn-shaped building is situated on 20 landscaped acres, only miles from where Billy Graham grew up in Charlotte, N.C.”

VOTE NOW: Is Christ Returning?

There is no charge to enter the museum, and it is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The venue, located at 4330 Westmont Drive, is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.

The Billy Graham Library features a number of exhibits, including an interactive area that features multimedia presentations, kiosks, photos, and memorabilia.

Videos and pictorial arrangements showcase Graham’s numerous crusades and the many interactions he had with prominent politicians, including Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Richard M. Nixon. Graham served as a spiritual advisor to a number of politicians throughout his years of influence.

Visitors also have an opportunity to tour the home Graham lived in from age 9 until he left for college. According to library personnel, the facility has been “meticulously restored” within more than 80 percent of the original materials restored.

Other features and amenities include a bookstore, known as Ruth’s Attic; a restaurant, the Graham Brothers Dairy Bar; and a memorial prayer garden.

According to an article in The New York Times, the cost to build the library was $27 million.
