Barbra Streisand's Acting Credentials: Awards and Highlights of Her Storied Career

As surprising as it sounds, given her talent as a singer and the millions of records that she has sold throughout her career, Barbra Streisand actually has never won a Grammy Award. She has been nominated four times, but has never won. When it comes to acting, however, she has been more successful in bringing home the award hardware.

Here's a look at how Streisand has fared in the major acting awards:

Academy Awards

During her 50-plus year acting career, which includes several breaks to work exclusively on her music, Streisand has garnered two acting nominations from the Oscars, winning one. Streisand was nominated for the Best Actress in a Leading Role award for 1968's "Funny Girl," winning the award. Five years later, she was once again nominated in the same category for 1973's "The Way We Were," but lost to Glenda Jackson, who won for her role in "A Touch of Class."

Additionally, Streisand directed and starred in 1991's "The Prince of Tides," which was tabbed with a Best Picture nomination. Finally, she has also been nominated for two Best Music, Original Song awards, winning for 1976's "A Star is Born," which she shared with lyricist Paul Williams.

Golden Globe Awards

Streisand and the Golden Globe Awards seem to go hand-in-hand, as she has been nominated 12 times overall, including nine times for acting awards. In addition to being nominated for her roles in 1969's "Hello, Dolly!" 1970's "The Owl and the Pussycat," 1973's "The Way We Were," 1975's "Funny Lady," 1983's "Yentl," 1987's "Nuts," and 1996's "The Mirror Has Two Faces, she has won several Golden Globes, too.

She took home the Best Motion Picture Actress Award (Musical/Comedy) for her performances in "Funny Girl," and she claimed several World Film Favorite – Female awards, winning in 1969, 1970, 1971, 1975, and 1978. She also won a Golden Globe for Best Director for "Yentl" and for Best Original Song for "A Star is Born." Finally, for her entire body of work, Streisand was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2000.

Primetime Emmy Awards

Proving her versatility on the small screen as well, Streisand has won or been nominated for nine Prime Time Emmy Awards, winning three times. She claimed victories for Outstanding Individual Achievements in Entertainment – Actors and Performers for 1965's "My Name is Barbra," as well as two awards for singing: 1995's "Barbra: The Concert" and 2001's "Timeless: Live in Concert."

Other Awards

Streisand has also earned a number of other accolades throughout her career, according to IMDb.com, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6925 Hollywood Boulevard in 1976 for her motion picture work. She has also won five People's Choice Awards, a Daytime Emmy Award, two David di Donatello Awards, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute.
